Shockwave therapy for neuroma: immediate relief experience
So Today I had my first session of Shockwave therapy. (bunions an Mortons Neuroma on both feet) after my orthopedic Surgeon from UCSF said to give it a try. Very interesting treatment. You lay on a chiropractic type table and they put the shock wave wand on the areas. At first you feel minor pulsing until it finds the sore spots an YIKES when it finds the problem areas it is very uncomfortable on the first pass but on the second pass it was fine. The Chiropractor told me that once it starts breaking up the scar tissue in the injured area it stops hurting after a few minutes as it stimulates blood to the area and new collegen prduction. I could not believe the relief after just one session. They recommend Toe stretches and spacers for 2 to 4 hrs per day, and foot insert soles made for neuroma, Wide shoes only for now. I go back every 7 days for 3 to 5 sessions or until the pain is gone. I will report back next week!

Is this is place of surgery?
Very interesting! Hopefully I won’t need it after surgery
Interesting! I’ve had that for back/neck pain and it did help. But can flare up again at times.
How does it feel now?
I have been seeing my chiropractor for about 2 years. He doesn't do anything but Shockwave and mainly treats adhesions and nerve entrapments. After my bunion surgery in Oct, he added working on my foot. It hurts sooooo bad but then the relief is immediate and the increase in range of motion is amazing. Highly recommend Shockwave therapy!
I have no idea what shockwave actually does for bunions? As for neuroma everything I’ve read so far says it will not help long-term so interested to see how this is six months from now good luck.
yes
but..She said a lot of her patients see her after having more issues from surgery
such an interesting approach!
They have been treating bunions in Canada for over15 years with Shockwave!
depends. I’ve had shockwave. It wasn’t going to fix a broken contracted toe
well if you have a break in the bone of course not.
you never know that till months after surgery
yes that’s why you need several treatments. Some people only need three some people need seven just depends on the severity of your injury.
awesome!
Oh sorry you had to have surgery!
I would go back for it again but I have a k wire in and I’m afraid to do it now till it’s out

I'll keep you posted weekly.
YES my right foot had 5 sessions and no more neuroma pain or bunion pain! My left foot has had 4 sessions and was much worse than my right but needs more sessions as the neuroma is still present, although not painful -just kind of and annoying numbness. I'd like to get about 3 mores sessions on the left foot. The person who does the treatment is my area is VERY over priced so I'm looking for a more affordable provider as I can't afford to keep seeing her.
sure!
