Foot pain and mood: does chronic pain affect your emotions?

Archive date 46 archived replies

For those that have had it, and bad, for years,”5”, has this affected your mood. Kind of made me more miserable, short tempered and actually angry at times. Has this happened to anyone else? Just wondering if it’s just me, because I’m sick of it already. Everything I used to love to do I no longer really can

Community comment#5

5+ years for me. It was completely debilitating for the first year because I didn't realize what I was dealing with and kept making it worse... After PT and shockwave, it was tolerable for the next 4 years and progressively better. Then, a month ago, I reinjured myself and now I can barely walk again. Frustrated is an understatement. I'm in my 40's and missed the last 5 years of taking my kid to fun places or going on walks or trips because I would wear out too quickly. I was thrilled when I finally made it through a big store for the first time and thought I was going to keep improving. But... One long walk and a trip to the beach with deep dry sand, and I'm back in PT. It makes me very sad. I remember seeing my great grandmother shuffling her feet and leaning on the shopping cart handle, and wonder if she suffered from plantar fasciitis as well.

I’m getting so desperate I’m about to throw a 72 hour fast at it

Only 5 mos and it has kept me from doing what I love and I am already over it.

TrustyNarwhal4797 in all honesty I don’t know how much longer I can keep going, I work 7am to7pm, usually 5 or 6 days a week. Tired of work, it’s draining and tired of all the doctors visits and money I keep throwing away for nothing🤷‍♂️. I still haven’t given up, but getting there. Beginning to think once you have it soo long there isn’t a fix, definitely not a guranteed one anyways

I know over 2 years with it here ! It's hard not to get discouraged for sure 🤷 Try some heat then compression and massaging..I found some cream in my bathroom closet .Idk where it even came from but I had it 🤔 It's called Traumeel . I been putting it on and it helps some .

TrustyNarwhal4797 I been truckin, after 5 years of grinning and bearing it it’s really gotten to me. Not like that will stop me but that’s how I really feel

IndigoBroccoli4611 I feel this! I’m into my second year with it, and try my hardest to keep up with my young boys. It is so depressing! And it’s caused me to gain weight on top of it. So now I just feel disgusting and useless, but I keep that to myself and just try to stay positive and grateful that I’m not dying of cancer or something much worse!

Right! I was just crying about my feet and then as we left the store, I realized that we were following a man with no leg. Humbling... I actually asked my doc for phentermine because I needed to lose weight to help take weight off of my foot. It really helps. I only take a half dosage each day so I don't get too nervous and I stop drinking coffee when I'm on it. Being lighter helps a lot. I told the doc that it's hard to exercise with bad feet. He agreed.

Massage gun Yoga band 1. Before go to sleep - massage gun your foot to legs 2. Before your first step in the morning use massage gun again and yoga band 3. Use WIDE shoes like on cloud cloudrunner for me 1-3 months you’ll see the difference. I came back playing sport doing this routine for almost a year now. Reason of PF is stiff muscle just imagine a rubber band forcely pulled that is what happening to your facia every morning without your stretch or massage it will pull out like a rubber then it snap. Trust me i suffer PF for years till i found this method You dont need injection etc or surgery all you need is patience. Once it happen it will takes weeks to months

You need to find a doctor that will help you I have had in 15 years but find relief and it comes back. Which sucks but it was it is!

Community comment#20

Yep its awful. Wake up in a mood cos its hurting 😪

Community comment#21

Yes depressed crying all the time in pain constant angry short fuse..it gets to me cos i cant do the things i used i cant walk as far as the end of my road ive oit on weight really had enough of it and the doctor podiatrist and physio have not helped me at all

Community comment#22

,💯 it has changed my life 😞

Community comment#23

Its relentless

Community comment#24

You have to ask yourself…Are you doing everything in your power to change your biomechanics??

Community comment#25

I was 3 pounds away from my goal weight and was in the best shape of my life when I got it I had to stop most activity I was board and I gained all the weight back 10 months in my feet have basically.been healing on their own I started biking 5 months ago 3x a week for 25 miles a time loving it starting to feel like I could possibly go back to the gym . Don't give up I think what worked for me was just telling myself I won't be hurt forever my feet will heal

Community comment#30

It definitely has affected my mood and this doesn't help much as I'm taking care of a husband with alzheimers. I wore a boot for 2 months on my right foot and now I have problems with both feet and the awkwardness of the boot has created havoc in my back. I'm NOT a happy camper.

Community comment#31

I'm always upset and angry I'm fed up and this is after surgery

Community comment#32

I am so with you. Has kept me from yard work, going to the grocery and so many other things. Rehab is doing nothing and there isn't a podiatrist that is any help at all.

Community comment#34

Hubby too he's different from it now you r not alone it's a man thing

Community comment#35

I am the b**** from hell 😕😣

Community comment#36

Yes ive had plantar for year and half know i get very down and angry as in pain lot the time got go for a operation on bunion in nov and they say it wont make plantar fascitis any better Was getting insoles made for me from orthotics and they just keep saying there be in touch with me when there ready and i then hear nothing im very angry with the system as they have not been giving me the service i need so just in pain in does make me angry and exhausted too say the least

what's everything and for how long? Just a food of thought... The science and research says walking backwards improves biomechanics/gait/posture and decreases PF pain yet 99.9% of people with PF don't consistently do this as therapy...

MysticalPhoenix2855 have tried 3 different podiatrists , reg doc, physio, chiropractor, physical therapy. Tried 14 different types of inserts, many many sneakers and boots, multiple shots, vibrating gun, and board, every kind of rub and pill imaginable, rest, ice, heat, wraps, creams, lotions etc etc etc etc. anything else? Strengthen exercises, stretching multiple times, yoga bands, not stretching , hemp cream, castor oil, medicated pads so on and so forth. Anything else? And have wasted a lot of money. Do you know something I don’t? Tried just about everything short of surgery, ypu know more than all that or? Going on 5 years. And recently peptides and I know all about walking backwards, I work 12 hour shifts and would be fired if seen walking around backwards.

20-30 min a day…3 or 4 times a week to get the full benefits imo. There are a couple of clinical studies online too. Try it. Best of Luck Btw. I’m a fisherman too. Fish on 👊

Walking backwards has a surprising number of health benefits

btw another food for thought. There is an MD in one of the other groups who claims to have a 90% success rate with a combo of stem cell and shockwave.

MysticalPhoenix2855 Here's my question. Do they assume that when people stop making appointments, that they are a success story? Because I've given up on treatments that felt like they weren't going anywhere and wonder if the therapists assume I'm healed. I'm not.

good question, because I’m not certain they know themselves. It’s not a simple thing to figure out I guess🤷‍♂️

I think it’s because everyone is different, so different things work for different people. My body makeup and my feet are probably different from yours, so I might require different exercises and shoes.

yes, it’s tough to find good help, I’ve been to 3 podiatrist’s, chiropractors, a physio and got inserts that were very expensive from one of them and they hurt so bad I couldn’t even wear. Good luck
