Tip That Helped My Post-Bunion Surgery Swelling and Toe Pres
Tip That Helped My Post-Bunion Surgery Swelling and Toe Pressure. I discovered something during recovery from bunion fusion and hammer-toe surgery that might help others dealing with severe swelling and pressure in the toes. When my leg was elevated with the foot pointing straight up toward the ceiling, swelling seemed to collect in the forefoot. This caused strong pressure between the toes where the gauze spacer was placed and created a sharp, cutting type of pain. When I rotated my leg slightly so the foot pointed sideways instead of straight up, while keeping the leg elevated, the pressure between the toes dropped significantly. The surgical areas became much calmer and the pain was much more manageable. Elevation was still maintained above heart level. The only thing that changed was the orientation of the foot. My personal observation is that when the toes are the highest point, swelling may collect in the forefoot. Allowing the foot to turn slightly sideways or tilt a little can let swelling redistribute away from the toes. After the pressure decreased, I noticed some mild warming or tingling in the toes, which felt like circulation returning after the swelling reduced. This isn't medical advice — just a recovery observation that helped me when the pressure between my toes became very painful.
