At what point do people decide to go with surgery? I’m going on 17 months with PF. Two podiatrists, every splint/brace/boot/insole/tape, lasers, stretching, shots, you name it. I had a heel bone contusion which has since healed, and I have bone spurs. I used to run marathons and now I feel like I will never be able to walk without pain again, let alone run. This has been devastating to my physical activity. Please tell me there’s a way to fix this! I should also add that I take a statin, and I recently read this could hinder my healing??

As an osteopath who has spent the last 10 years treating PF, I thought I'd share with you some of the resources that I often give to patients. Hope you find it useful (made for another group but thought I'd share here as the members seemed to find it useful). Andrew. Please see comments for videos (recommended order: plantar fasciitis group video 1st, and then e3 rehab second).

Hi runners! I am post injection (second round in April, first was in 2023) in bilateral heels. My pain is predominantly gone, but what running shoes have you all transitioned to after it has resolved? I was wearing Altras then transitioned to NB 1080s. I’d like to go back to Altras but am open to other brands!

Hi everybody . If anyone is experiencing or has experienced plantar like this please let me know because I’m second guessing my diagnosis and scared it’s fat pad atrophy About 6 months ago I started having heel pain and I was like oh no is the PF in my left foot ? I had it in my right about 4 years ago. It went away and then 2 days later came back and has been with me ever since. Been icing and doing all exercises for PF and then gave in and went to my orthopedic surgeon ( who gave me a PRP shot in my right and healed me ). No testing was done except an xray and it ruled out all abnormalities that an xray can show . The pain is when I lift my toes back, it feels like I’m pulling my insides not sharp just very tight. At times when I press in the inner part of my foot it hurts but also at time the outer part and the heel is where the pain is mostly . When I walk it hurts . It’s there in the morning and does go away a bit and then it flares up at times and when I sit for a long time it hurts and I limp. It feels like I am walking on a black and blue more than a sharp stabbing pain but don’t hurt just sitting around , though at times the inner part can burn . It hurts when I stand on the floor to do yoga and warrior pose and lunges ( so I stopped for now). My Dr told me plantar can present itself different ways to people . I have an appointment with my podiatrist Friday and asked for an ultrasound but I am scared to find out the results because I’m scared of atrophy. Has anyone experienced the heel pain in the back bottom of the foot ? Thanks everyone

Hi everyone. I’ve had plantar fasciitis since last December. Earlier this year I underwent shockwave therapy, but unfortunately it made my symptoms much worse. I now have heel pain throughout the day rather than just first thing in the morning. I’ve also had custom orthotics made, as I have lower arches and overpronation, which is contributing to the strain on my plantar fascia. My next treatment options are either a steroid injection or PRP. As I’m really looking for pain relief and there seems to be more research supporting steroid injections, I’ve provisionally booked one for next month. However, I’m feeling quite cautious because I’m concerned about potential risks such as heel fat pad thinning or other complications. My first MRI mentioned heel fat pad oedema, but my most recent MRI doesn’t mention any heel fat pad atrophy. It shows chronic plantar fasciitis with inflammation, and my consultant feels either a steroid injection or PRP would be appropriate. I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who: * had symptoms worsen after shockwave therapy but then improved following a steroid injection; * has had a steroid injection for plantar fasciitis and found it helpful; * or, on the other hand, experienced any complications or worsening after a steroid injection. I’d be grateful for any experiences or advice, as I’m trying to make the most informed decision possible. Thank you!
