This is more for newbies but when looking at machines for purchase, the number of plays doesn't matter as much as how well it has been maintained & cleaned. Yes number of plays will alert you if it has been on location or home use only but really the lifetime plays really only comes into consideration with newer machines where the play count can't be reset. Older machines could easily be reset because of how the electronics were when batteries were needed to retain memory. There's no telling how many plays my refurbished Tales from the Crypt has had over the years. I will never know. What I do know is that it plays awesome and feels like a new machine. Everything on a pinball machine is pretty much easily replaceable to make new again. So knowing what to look for is key and how it plays is most important when purchasing a used machine. My Ghostbusters for example has 21k plays and has been to Canada & back but you would never know it. It's in awesome condition and plays like new. I've heard some distributors state that number of plays doesn't matter but they want to see your shooter lane if you're trading a game which makes no sense to me. If a game has 30k plays of course it's going to have a little wear in the shooter lane. So the shooter lane shouldn't matter either. And you can always repair a shooter lane too if it has a lot of damage. On another note, if the game has the option of lowering the trough power then that's highly recommended to cut down on shooter lane damage. See less

How do you repair a shooting lane?

I added a shooter lane protector to my first and only (so far) machine to avoid that issue.
